Learning Observed

Today I oversaw the iActive leaders on the “Octopus” game. The students from the orange group were all invited to play this game together this week. Learners were required to run from one end to the other without being tagged, if they got tug they became a tigger. The focus for the game was connected playing - helping one another. Mikaele was a very connected player as he helped many other learners know when it was their turn to run, and never stopped trying - sprinting from end to the other, always with a big smile on his face.

Evidence of learning
Mikaele showed everyone how to be a connected player. I wonder if he can help others learn the new game next week?
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Mikaele is developing his Connections in iActive (physical education). He was able to help others learn how to play the game (Relating to others). Mikaele was eager to play himself, sprinting from one end to the other with a big smile on his face constantly; and he encouraged other learners to play as well (Participating and Contributing). He was helping others Think about when they should run. Mikaele was a good example to others of how to do Connected Playing.

Learning Observed

Today I invited the Learners to write a story about an animal they liked. We practised writing “I like” and finding the words on the word card. We then talked about finding the initial letter of the animal we wanted to write about. Mikaele then went off by himself to write his own story. He wrote “I like l” (I like lions).
Evidence of learning
Mikaele was able to find “l” for lion all by himself. I wonder if he has practised his writing in the holidays.
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Mikaele is developing his Capabilities in Writing. He was able to work by himself to write a story (Managing Self). Mikaele is starting to form his letters correctly and listen to the sounds they make when recording them (Using Language, Symbols and Text). He was able to Think of his own story and write it down.
