In Maths, we have been learning to use our basic addition and subtraction facts to help us solve harder problems. We are now using these to help us solve multiplication problems.
Mikaele is engaging with his maths and is beginning to show his capability in solving tricky word problems. He is able to collaborate and explain his thinking with other learners around him. Mikaele is now making connections of using the strategies we’ve learned to help him solve multiplication problems.

Mikaele and Basketball

In Physical Education this term our habitat have been learning about large ball skills such as: passing, catching, dribbling and shooting. These skills help us to play the game of softball. We know that we need to use our hands, legs and arms to help better our skills.
Mikaele worked collaboratively with other learners in the game Golden Child. Each learner had to shoot the ball into the hoop to stop the other team from running around the court and scoring points. When shooting, Mikaele has been practicing to use bend his knees and use his arms to shoot the ball into the hoop.

iDevelop: Mikaele and Maths

In Maths, our group have been learning to add, subtract tens and ones and find the missing tens and one too. We have been practicing our basic facts to 10 to help strengthen our knowledge. Our group has also been practicing dice games like: Odds and Evens to help with our quick recall of facts to 20 as well.
Mikaele has been learning to find the missing tens and ones and look at the place value of two-digit numbers. He shows capability of his quick recall of facts and is able to share his thinking with others. Mikaele works collaboratively with others by listening to others share their ideas too.

Mikaele and Reading

In Reading the Green group have been learning to think carefully about what makes sense when we read out loud. We have also been learning to retell the story again in our own words.

Mikaele shows curiosity by listening carefully during discussions to questions asked and to feedback given to improve his understanding. He is being collaborative by working with other learners around him and sharing his ideas. Mikaele shows capability by using the text to help support his answers. He is beginning to make connections with the texts he reads, with his outside world.

iExplore: Mikaele in the Garden

During our morning iExplore sessions learners had the opportunity to choose what activity they would like to participate in. Mikaele chose to learn more about our habitat garden. He showed collaboration by working well with others around him to clean out the weeds from the garden and prepare the garden for a new lot of seeds to be planted. He was capable in using the gardening tools correctly and safely while others were around him. He made connections with his learning to the year prior in gardening and was able to apply this while he was outside in the garden. Mikaele was curious about what could be planted this term.
